US Warning Over Traveling in Italy Scares the Natives

I can honestly say that I hadn’t completely considered the effect of US scare tactics on the rest of the world. We get so used to Red Alerts and Orange Alerts and Yellow Alerts, that most of the people I know don’t even know what any of the colors mean anymore. Americans live in a heightened fear of terror attacks that continue not to happen on our soil. The warning of US tourist not to travel in Italy during the election because of a “threat” of violence, seems to have not only warded off tourists, but has also shook up Italians.

Using Americans as an example, living in a climate of fear has only been useful in aligning the public with the Right, it’s no wonder they would use it to sway European elections in favor of government parties that either agree with the conservative ideology or having something at stake in working with the good ol’ US of A.
